It will also help prevent public health problems such as anaemia and malnutrition, which remain a challenge for the most remote Amazonian populations.

Difficulties in accessing markets, basic services, technical assistance and transport make food security a priority for the province. At certain times of year, the high cost of food brought in from other cities and logistical constraints can affect the availability of essential products, increasing families' vulnerability.

Planned activities include setting up sustainable productive initiatives, promoting family and school gardens, strengthening knowledge of agricultural management and providing training in practices that improve food production in ways compatible with conserving natural resources.

Sally Plaza, representative of AFRONTA, highlighted that the partnership will extend the reach of development programmes in hard-to-access communities. "Working in coordination with the Regional Agriculture Directorate will allow us to reach more families and strengthen local capacities so that communities themselves can improve their production and food systems sustainably," she said.

Food security is fundamental to the development of the Indigenous peoples of Purús, not only because it guarantees adequate nutrition, but also because it helps preserve traditional knowledge, strengthen the family economy and improve living conditions for future generations.

With this agreement, AFRONTA and the DRAU reaffirm their commitment to promoting the sustainable development of the province, strengthening the resilience of Indigenous and local communities in the face of the economic, social and environmental challenges they confront in the Peruvian Amazon.

La Asociación Fronteras Amazónicas – AFRONTA y la Dirección Regional de Agricultura de Ucayali (DRAU) suscribieron un convenio de cooperación…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[8
11
post-188","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-alianzas","tag-ucayali
["GET
